Is there more to life than this?

We can't convince you. All we can do is share that we have found so much more.

We have discovered that the words of Jesus are true when he says:

'I have come in order to give you life to the full. " (John 10.10).

Our lives are being transformed from the inside out as we learn to trust more in Jesus.

Is there more to life than this?

We invite you to explore the question for yourself.

“The unexplored life is not worth living!”   -  Plato

RESULTS of the Chatteris Survey - September 2018

1202 Houses were visited. 530 were in. 360 surveys completed. There are 5041 houses in Chatteris

The Questions

Each of the questions on the survey is listed below, along with a percentage analysis of the responses.  Along with each one, there are a few comments and/or helpful Bible verses.

1.      What do you believe about God?

  • Distant                                                 11%

  • A personal God                                   35%

  • A force                                                 8%

  • Non-existent                                        21%

  • Other                                                    25%

The vast majority still believe in some sense in God, though many would not say that they have a daily relationship with Him.  Yet the Bible speaks of a God who may be known: “If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in him and he in God” - 1 John 4.15.

 2.  What do you believe happens at the end of our lives?

  •  We die and that’s it                              30%

  • Return to earth in another form          11%

  • Everyone goes to Heaven                    13%

  • Go to Heaven or Hell                           17%

  • Not sure                                               19%

  • Some other answer                             10%

No question reveals more the uncertainty of those in our society than this.  We must all face death, yet few seem prepared for the day.  The words of Jesus, the one who was raised from the dead, give a sure and certain hope to those who would put their hand in His.  “Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life.  He who believes in me will live, even though he dies;  and whoever lives and believes in me will never die.’”  - John 11.25-26

 3.  What do you believe about Jesus?

  •  Didn’t exist at all                     7%

  • Just a good man                      25%

  • A prophet                                 22%

  • The only Son of God               32%

  • Some other answer                 14%

Most people agree that Jesus existed.  Given the independent Roman evidence, that is not surprising.  Many have said he was a prophet or even the Son of God - clearly someone very special and speaking from God.  If so, then surely He needs to be taken seriously?  His promises are so amazing, his teaching unique in authority and content.  He even lays claim to each of our lives - having died to bring each of us forgiveness: This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.” - Matthew 26.28

4a Have you ever had a spiritual experience?

  •  Yes                                         39%

  • No                                           61%

4b Have you ever prayed about an issue?

  • Yes                                          69%

  • No                                           31%

69% is the highest percentage answer to any of our questions. When we encounter problems in life, our natural reaction is to pray. “ Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray”  - James 5:13

 5.  If you could know God personally, have a relationship with Him, would you be interested?

  • No                               23%

  • Yes                              41%

  • Not sure                        31%

  • Some other answer       5%

The Bible has good news for those who have given a positive answer.  You can know God, through Jesus Christ.  Jesus says: “I stand at the door and knock.  If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.” Revelation 3.20

"Is it a bit like poetry?

Difficult to pin down?

Or, is it more like a conversation?"

Something shared / Something grasped / Something understood?

One thing is for sure; God is not a slot machine.

God is person.

When we pray, some one is listening. Someone who understands.

Sadly, deep down many people think that God is not that nice, he does not like us very much and he spends most of his time being cross with us. This could not be further from the truth.

Like a match strike, prayer can set events in motion that I have not yet imagined.

And so we pray, using the words that Jesus taught us...

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours
now and for ever.

“‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’  This is the greatest and the most important commandment. The second most important commandment is like it: ‘Love your neighbour as you love yourself.’    - Jesus

Reading the Bible

The Bible actively works in our lives when we read it; allow it to shape our thinking and give us a sense of purpose. Let us know if you would like to know how to get the most from your Bible. Many use the "Bible in one year" app on our phones. It is easy to install and it is free. It is great to know that others in town are using it too! The app gives a selection of three Bible readings for each day with commentary by Nicky and Pippa Gumble.  Many of us have found that the daily audio commentary is easy to listen to and practical for real life.  You can download it free from the App Store or from google play.
